Why Isn't My Injury Better?

If
you have followed the recommendations for managing your injury and it is no better, consider the following reasons:
Wrong diagnosis: the problem may be different or more serious than initially thought.
Wrong treatment: there are a wide range of treatments available for managing injuries, but these need
to be chosen according to your specific needs. For example rehabilitation programmes need to be fine tuned to you, some medications
may be unsuitable and injection therapies may not have worked because they have not ‘hit the right spot’. You can waste a lot of time having the wrong treatments: seek expert advice.
Wrong time frame: we all want to get better quickly and that is a primary consideration in helping you
to manage your injury. However, it is also important to be realistic about the time needed for tissues to heal strongly. Clinical
examination and imaging can help to predict the time needed to recover and goals can be set accordingly.
Fitness: It may be that your body is not fit enough to deal with the demands you are making upon it and
that can be exaggerated if you are recovering from an injury. One of the ways of managing – physically and psychologically
– after an injury is to build other aspects of your fitness while the injured area heals. For example, cross train,
core stability, yoga, aqua jogging.
